HAPPENING NOW!

Road Recovery Road Recovery

August, 2008

On Sunday, September 7, 2008, I will be riding 100 miles in the NYC Century Bike Tour as part of “Team Road Recovery” to help kids in need. I’m writing to request your support.

Road Recovery offers a variety of acclaimed, effective programs that provide youth facing adversity, especially the disease of addiction, with a safe place to go, be accepted, and gain lifesaving support by teens and adults who’ve already been there! Since 1998, Road Recovery has been working primarily with entertainment industry professionals whose lives have been derailed by substance abuse and other adversities, to impart life skills to youth through real-world, entertainment business-oriented workshops. Road Recovery’s programs range from guiding teens in creating their own bands, CDs and concerts to bringing in guest speakers to contribute their knowledge and inspiration. Slash (from Guns N’ Roses), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave), Ozzy Osbourne, Doug E. Fresh, Debra Winger, Charles Grodin, Darryl Strawberry, and other well-known personalities who support Road Recovery with their time and talent.

Having been involved with the group for almost 4 years, I have seen the profound, positive effects Road Recovery has had on kids’ lives. Road Recovery needs your help, especially in these tight economic times, to continue its important work. You can make a tax-deductible donation online at http://www.roadrecovery.org/100mileride.htm or send contributions payable to Road Recovery at the address at the top of this page.

To learn why Team Road Recovery has the mentality to sit on an itty-bitty piece of leather and push our legs for 100 miles, go to… well, there’s no website for that, but knowing we’re racing for the kids of Road Recovery and knowing you are supporting them will help us through those last extra-long miles. Together, we can make a difference!

“This program saved my son’s life.”Ed Aussem (father, ride organizer)

“For over ten years Road Recovery has been helping kids find their way towards a healthy future through the efforts of music industry professionals. I am proud to be a member of this great organization.”Slash, Velvet Revolver, Guns N’ Roses

“Road Recovery’s mentor programs foster important change in young people’s lives - AND THEY ROCK HARD AT THE SAME TIME. They say ‘if you don’t stand up for something, you’ll fall for anything’ and I think that’s really true. Have the courage to stand up for one another and those less fortunate. I support Road Recovery’s efforts and everyone involved in the work of this amazing organization.”Tom Morello, The Nightwatchman, Audioslave, Rage Against The Machine

“It took me 23 years to get there. I’m not doing anything again if I’m not sober. Sobriety is worth it! Road Recovery is worth it!” Ozzy Osbourne

“Road Recovery is a very special group of people who know how it is when you live life, and wants to make sure kids of all ages get a real shot from people who experienced a lot and area willing to give back! This is the realist thing I’ve seen out here for real.” Doug E. Fresh (parent, artist)

“In terms of prevention, Road Recovery offers young people an opportunity to interact with musicians and others in the music industry who support and live substance-free lives. I will continue to refer clients and others to the program.” Laurie B. Levine, Ph.D.

If you can give anything, you rock no matter what the amount. For an idea of how your donation might break down per mile, check this out:
